Independence Day 2014

With a newborn due to arrive any day, we decided to stick close to home this year for the 4th of July. The homeowners association we are a part of puts together a huge 4th of July celebration at the town center for the whole community to enjoy. We started the day off there. The event is kicked off by a parade consisting of all the kids in the neighborhood cruising on their patriotically decorated bikes.   The parade ends at the community park, which is packed with food vendors, music, and fun activities for the kids.

The Snoqualmie Fire Department was there. Two of the fireman who helped Cooper and I on his first birthday (when he had a febrile seizure) were there. They recognized Cooper and I and came up to us and said hello! How amazing is that?

Cooper would NOT leave the fire truck.

Can you guess what he is pointing at? "Truck…truck?"

The neighbors on our street were there too. Here is just part of our street gang.

Pizza picnic in the park.

After a long nap, Cooper, Chris, and the neighbors lit some smoke bombs and fountains. It frightens me that Cooper never flinched when Chris lit fireworks. In fact, Cooper only asked and vigorously signed for "more, more!" He was also quite frustrated that he was contained to the sidewalk. If he stepped into the street I took the fireworks away. The kid did not step foot in the street. Never has he listened so well. Great...

BBQ in our neighbor's driveway for dinner.

We finished the night with "big kid" fireworks and s'mores in our neighbor's backyard. Mortars and Roman candles are plenty of boom-boom for me. It was a wonderful 4th of July.
